Jatan Nagar Palace- Story of A Haunted Palace of Odisha

Odisha has several Historical Monuments in form of Temple and Palace . One Such Palace is Located in Dhenkanal district of Odisha called Jatan Nagar Palace. The palace is on a small hill and it has 100 rooms. Long ago, a king’s brother named Narasimha Pratap Singhdeo started construction of this palace.Now a days it is regarded as most haunted place of Odisha. There is story regarding this haunted palace which will be discuss below. The Construction work of this building of the palace was not easy. Many workers had to carry huge stones and heavy materials. As per the old belief the People say that the workers who constructed this building were treated badly, and many of them died while working. Because of this, people believe that the spirits of the workers still stay inside the palace.

Why People Think It Is Haunted

The local people of this area along with some visitors share their real story and experience regarding this palace. Some People say that they hear whispering voices when no one is there. However Some visitors hear soft crying sounds and sometimes scary screaming from empty rooms. A few people say they saw dark shadows of a human being moving in empty hallways of the palace. This type of stories are widely prevailed in this area. Because of all these stories, many people think the palace is very haunted.

The Painful Past

There is also a sad belief about the palace. A long time ago, some workers were forced to work very hard.
They had little food, little rest, and too much pain. Some of them died inside the palace area. Because they died with sadness and suffering, people say: “Their souls never left the palace.” Some people also believe that special rooms were used to punish workers, and their fear still remains in the walls.

What the Palace Looks Like Now

Today, some parts of the palace are broken and look old. But some parts are still strong and beautiful. Visitors come to see: the big rooms, the long halls, the view from the hill and of course, to hear the ghost stories. At night, the palace looks even more mysterious because of the lights and the dark forest around it.

Truth or Story?

Some people say the ghost stories are true. Others say these stories are only made by local people to make the palace famous. History books do not clearly say that everyone was tortured. Some parts are true, some are only stories passed from one person to another. But one thing is sure: The palace has a long history, many secrets, and a scary atmosphere that makes it feel haunted.
